Vestibular migraines
Sometimes we experience headaches, which may have some visual changes. This is the vestibular migraine, but before taking about it. We will take about migraine. Migraine is a headache type which is painful and occur on one head side. Aura may be occurred before attacks. Migraine aura is ears ringing, visual spots and flashes. Migraine has many symptoms such as double vision, nausea, vomiting and dizziness. Women experience migraine more than men with a ratio equal 3:1.
Vestibular migraine is one type of migraine. It is also having aura, which comes before attacks. Vestibular migraine doesn’t cause pain! While the normal migraine cause it. Vestibular migraine is also named as Optical migraine, Ocular migraine, Visual migraine, Acephalgic migraine.
The Visual disturbances of the Vestibular Migraine:
The main symptoms of vestibular migraines are visual disturbances. They are flashing lights which look like a fortress , zigzag like lights or blind spot in the vision field. Vestibular migraine attacks may last for an hour.
There is a rare type of vestibular migraine, which comes with headache. The headache will follow the aura.
How to know that you are experiencing a vestibular migraines? If you experienced the same aura. Usually, migraine is diagnosed if the same migraine symptoms are occurred over many years.
The cause of vestibular migraine:
It is not confirmed yet. There are many studies show that it is a result from endocrine disturbance, brain edema or allergies. The only confirmed reason is blood circulation disturbance in the brain. The migraines are associated with the brain blood vessels narrowing, which followed by dilation.
Note that: not all visual disturbance is caused by vestibular migraines. There are many diseases can also cause visual disturbance. It may be caused from tumor of the brain, multiple sclerosis, ischemic attack, mini stroke eye retina and partial seizures.
Vestibular migraines treatments:
Aspirin and sedatives are the most common treatment for vestibular migraines. Relieving vestibular migraine pain can be caused by sleeping or resting in dark place. Injection of ingestion, triptans and nasal spraying are effective treatments for vestibular migraines with headache pain. Antiepileptic, antidepressants, beta blocker drugs are also used for treating vestibular migraines. You need to take the treatment before the headache attack as aura is come before the vestibular migraine headache.
